When my children were small, they loved building blocks. They would spend untold hours building towers, houses or just anything that popped into their mind. And, often, those structures would be knocked down out of frustration. Frustration that it did not turn out like my child had hopes it would turn out.
Our lives are like those building blocks. The building blocks of out heart are often built up just to be knocked down. And we cry out in frustration to God and ask why would He put something in out heart for it to just get torn down. But often we try to build too fast, too haphazard or too much at a time and those blocks get wobbly. But God’s timing is not ours. His timing provides a footing, a cornerstone and ultimate stability.
Romans 5:3-4 reminds us that tribulation leads to perseverance and perseverance to character and character to hope. I am eternally grateful for these words. They remind me that muscle has to tear down in order to build up stronger.
So, when our life doesn’t look the way we expected, know that God builds on His perfect time and His perfect will. So we can covet the heartache while we wait; because the muscle that tears down will grow back stronger.
